That is the gap. It is real, and it is the reason this is one of the most-travelled treatments in the country.

Veneer or crown? They are not the same thing

This distinction is where most patients get misled, so it is worth being precise.

• A veneer is a thin facing bonded to the front of the tooth. Preparation removes roughly 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel from the front surface only. The tooth stays substantially intact.
• A crown caps the whole tooth. Preparation reduces the tooth on every side, typically removing 1–2 mm all round. Considerably more tooth is lost, and it is not reversible.
• Zirconia is a strong, opaque ceramic — excellent for crowns and back teeth, less naturally translucent at the front.

The one question to ask

A good clinic will answer directly, and will sometimes tell you that fewer units, orthodontics, or simply whitening would serve you better than twenty crowns. A clinic that answers "don't worry, it's minimal" and moves on to the price is telling you something.

The timeline

Unlike implants, cosmetic work is usually a single trip of five to seven days:

3. Days 3–5 — lab fabrication; you are free during this window.
