A U.S. clinic typically prices per graft — commonly $5 to $9 — so a 3,000-graft session lands between $15,000 and $27,000 before anything else. The Turkish hospitals we work with price the session, not the graft, which removes the incentive to inflate the count.
FUE or DHI — what you are actually paying the difference for
Both extract individual follicular units from the back and sides of the head, where hair is genetically resistant to loss, and place them where hair has thinned. The difference is the placement step.
- FUE — channels are opened first with a blade or punch, then grafts are placed into them. It is the established technique, works well on large areas, and is what most sessions use.
- DHI — grafts are loaded into a pen-shaped implanter that opens the channel and places the graft in one motion. Grafts spend less time outside the body, and the angle and density are easier to control. It suits dense packing and work between existing hairs.
- Neither is universally better. DHI's advantages matter most on the hairline and on patients adding density to an area that still has hair. For a large bald crown, FUE is often the sensible choice and the results are comparable.
The honest summary: pay for DHI if your case is hairline design or dense packing between existing hairs. Do not pay for it because it was described to you as "the newer one".
Why they are so much cheaper here
Hair transplantation is unusually labour-intensive — a session can occupy a team of four to six people for six to eight hours. Almost the entire cost is that labour. Türkiye has a very deep pool of experienced hair-transplant teams, extremely high procedure volume, and labour costs a fraction of North America's. There is very little expensive hardware involved for the saving to hide behind.
Volume also does something real to skill. A surgeon performing several hundred cases a year develops a level of technical familiarity that a surgeon doing thirty a year cannot match. That is the genuine argument for travelling for this particular procedure — and it is stronger here than for most treatments.
The €1,500 packages: what is really going on
You will see hair transplants advertised at $1,200–$1,800 including hotel and transfers. These are not usually outright fraud, but you should understand what makes the number possible:
- Technicians do the work. In high-volume clinics the surgeon may design the hairline and then leave; extraction and placement are performed by technicians. This is legal in Türkiye within limits, and quality varies enormously.
- The graft count is inflated. "5,000 grafts" is quoted where 3,000 were harvested. There is no way for you to count them, and a donor area only holds so much — over-harvesting permanently thins the back of your head.
- The session is rushed. Two or three patients in a day compresses the time each graft can be handled carefully, and graft survival depends on exactly that.
- Extras appear on arrival — PRP, medication, a "premium" technique — bringing the real total closer to the honest price anyway.
How many grafts do you actually need?
Nobody can answer this from a photograph on WhatsApp, and any clinic that gives you a precise number before examining your scalp and donor density is quoting a sales figure. As rough orientation only:

Ask what your donor density is measured at, and how many grafts your donor area can give up over a lifetime — not just today. A surgeon who plans for the second procedure you might need in ten years is thinking about the right timescale.
The trip and the timeline
- Day 1 — arrival, consultation, blood tests, hairline design agreed and drawn with you before anything starts.
- Day 2 — the procedure, typically six to eight hours with breaks.
- Day 3 — first wash performed at the clinic, taught to you, and aftercare instructions issued.
- Day 4 — fly home.
Three to four nights covers it. Then the part nobody advertises: transplanted hairs shed within two to four weeks — this is normal and expected — and regrowth starts around month three. You will see a meaningful result at six months and the final result at twelve to eighteen. Anyone showing you a "result" at six weeks is showing you hairs that are about to fall out.
