Why implants cannot be done in one trip
Because bone is slow. When a titanium implant is placed, the surrounding bone grows onto and into its surface — a process called osseointegration — and that is what makes the implant able to carry chewing force. It takes roughly eight to twelve weeks in the lower jaw and three to six months in the softer upper jaw. Load a crown onto an implant before that has happened and you risk losing the implant.
The good news is that the waiting happens at home, not in a hotel: you fly back after placement, get on with your life, and return only when the implant is ready. On full-arch cases you fly home with a fixed temporary bridge, so you are not without teeth at any point.
Time off work, realistically
Days in Türkiye is not the same as days unavailable. What most patients actually need to book off:
- Hair transplant — 4 days away, but plan on 7 to 10 before you look presentable at work. Scabbing and redness are visible for about a week to ten days.
- Veneers or crowns — 5 to 7 days away, and you can work the day you land. No downside beyond mild sensitivity.
- Single implant — 4 days per trip, plus a quiet day either side. Most people work normally within 48 hours of placement.
- Full arch — 6 to 7 days away, and a soft-food week afterwards. Desk work is fine; heavy physical work is not, for about ten days.
- Rhinoplasty — 7 to 9 days away, then expect visible bruising for a further one to two weeks. Most patients take two full weeks off.
- Knee replacement — 2 to 3 weeks away, then six to twelve weeks of graduated return. This one is a genuine medical leave, not a holiday with a procedure attached.
Do you need a visa?
For most patients from the United States and Canada, travelling to Türkiye for tourism or medical treatment does not require a visa for short stays — but entry rules change, and they are the traveller's responsibility. Check your own nationality's current requirement on the official Turkish e-Visa site before you book flights, and confirm your passport has at least six months of validity remaining from your date of entry.

How to book flights without losing money
- Get the surgical plan in writing first. Dates move when a scan reveals grafting; a plan agreed before you book protects you.
- Book flexible or refundable fares for any surgical trip. For a knee, this is not optional — your fly-home date is a clinical decision made after the operation.
- Add two buffer days at the end of any surgical trip. Swelling, a delayed lab, or a follow-up appointment that needs to move are all normal and all cheap to absorb if you have the room.
- Book the second implant trip only once the first is complete. Healing rates vary, and the eight-to-ten-week gap is a guide, not a guarantee.

Can dental implants be done in one trip?+
